Handshake with a Butterfly

There it lay, down on the ground,
Hurt? My premise, but safe and sound!
Amazed by the beauty, of its colorful wings,
Mesmerized to see how nature creates things

I bowed down, further down on my knee,
My shadow eclipsed it,
But it did not flee-
Hello! Said I, but it resounded back to me.

I stretched out my hand,
To alarm it as if,
It placed its slender foot on it
With a slight mischief.

It feared not!
I wondered why
I realized later on,
Myself was shy.

Never had it before-
The experience as such,
Wanted to hold it forever
If at all I could clutch

Alas! It lasted, just for a moment,
As small as that-
And left me nostalgic,
Until I received a pat.

It was time to go,
To become sane again,
But, where did the butterfly go?
Perhaps, down the memory lane.
